How to Walk like a man by Eli Easton
Rating : four stars
After I read How to Howl to the Moon, I decided to continue this series because I loved Roman as a character. And indeed this book did not disappoint.
This second volume focuses on Roman and a new addition to the town Matt a federal agent. The town is dealing with some cases of drug and Matt was dispatched to help the sheriff, our dearest Lance, and report to his bureau. Yet the story turns more interesting when Roman grows attached to the human and has to deal with his own demons.
First I have to say Roman is cute. Not only as a dog but also as human. He lives on instinct and is naïve, clueless and sweet. It’s good to see more dog-like personality because in the first book I thought that Lance, even if he is quickened, acted quite human. I thought that he was so cute trying to figure out how to act more human and what some sorts of behavior meant.
We also get more on the quickened and it was so sad to see what Roman had to go through. Matt is also a loveable character and interesting too. They both have a good dynamic and their relationship is very slow built compared to the first volume, which is good, more realistic. Well as realistic as a dog shifter who is working in the sheriff department is.
But what made it even better was when Tim and Lance explained things to Roman, just for that the book had one more star xD.

I was so happy to start this book! Finally a dog shifter story! I do love wolves but I needed a little bit of change. So yes this is romance and paranormal not things I normally read but I did enjoy it from time to time. You know when your mind is just so overwhelmed that you need something so light and cute to relax? Exactly the type of read this book was and not in a bad way.
In this book dogs can shift to human, they are called “quickened”. Some are born this way and others learn to. Most of the dogs that learn to shift lost their masters which for me was a cute explanation for reincarnation. Their master died and they shift into human because of the close link they had with their master’s. I mean that’s how I understood it. At first it was a bit disturbing for me but then I thought that to reverse the shift (the fact that for once it’s not human to animal but animal to human) was interesting. But the dog of this story, Lance was not a dog first, he was born quickened and knows how to act as a human and as a dog and he is completely at peace with both sides.
I think it’s a good idea to start with a character like Lance to set the world of the quickened because he doesn’t have to learn how to act as human so we can learn more about the world this way. Yes love was a good character to start with and he is the pack leader (not alpha like in a wolf pack but a leader nonetheless). And Tim, the sweet human that gets trapped into this world, was so cute he is your typical loveable human that everyone finds cute.
The story as a whole was cute and quite good (though a bit plain) I just thought that Tim accepted the idea of the “quickened” world a little bit too easily. It’s a good start for the building of a series and I will definitively read the next one since it involves Roman the German shepherd.
Well that’s it for today’s review! I hope you’ll all have a great week and stay warm under this cold winter!!! Until next time! Bye!
